Yell Direct Security Policy

This website is owned and run by Yell Limited. In this Security Policy, we will refer to Yell Limited using the terms "Yell", "us", "we" and "our". If we use the term "Yell group", this means Yell and our subsidiaries, our ultimate holding company and its subsidiaries, as defined in section 1159 of the Companies Act 2006.

At Yell, we take the security of your personal data extremely seriously. Buying your advertising on Yell Direct is easy, convenient and safe. We make every effort to maintain customer confidentiality when securing an online payment. This includes ensuring the security of your credit card details and other personal information.

All personal information that you provide via our websites is secured and stored away from public access. Credit card information is encrypted before any transaction takes place and before the information travels over the Internet. We encrypt all credit card details you give us using a Secure Socket Layer (SSL). SSL is an industry standard for data encryption and is one of the best ways to ensure internet messages are not intercepted. Older browsers cannot use SSL, so you will need Netscape Navigator 3, Microsoft Internet Explorer 3 or later versions of these browsers. Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site and any transmission is at your own risk. We recommend that you use appropriate encryption.

As with any standard email, emails containing your personal data sent to or from Yell will travel in a non-encrypted format.

You may be aware of recent media reports that have a highlighted a practice called "Phishing". This is the illegal gathering of personal information by deception. It involves a third party illegally gathering the customer email addresses of a legitimate business. The third party will then send an unsolicited email to that customer mailing list pretending to be from the legitimate business. The email will ask customers to enter or reconfirm bank or password details into a 'cloned' or illegal copy website (that is, a website that looks like the legitimate business's website).

Please note: Yell will never ask you to enter personal bank account or credit card details into an email or through a link sent via an email. You will only be asked for your card payment details if you wish to purchase our products or services or change or cancel a previous order. We require this information specifically to debit or credit your card in relation to your order.

We make every effort to ensure only authorised access is made to your account information when using Yell Direct. This includes requiring you to enter a password, asking you for memorable information when you forget your password, and sending you confirmation emails when you manage your account. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password or other security information which enables you to access certain parts of our websites (including those displaying your account details), you are responsible for keeping this password and other security information confidential. We ask you not to share your password or other security information with anyone and we will not be responsible for any loss or damage you may suffer if you do. We will not be liable for any misuse of your password.

Logging in to your account on Yell Direct: When you register on Yell Direct we will send a PIN code to the address we already hold in our system for your business. The first time you use your username and password to log on to Yell Direct will be asked to type in this PIN code in order to activate your account. Supplying this PIN code through the post in a separate communication to you ensures an extra level of security.

Yell Direct's secure servers: When you log on to your account on Yell Direct you will be asked to click on pop-up boxes that inform you that you are entering a secure environment. Within this secure environment all your data is scrambled using encryption technology which means that only you are able to see the information inside your account. The little padlock symbol that appears in the bottom right-hand corner of your browser appears on every page.

Lost passwords: If you are having any difficulties logging on or you have forgotten your password, please call our Customer Services Team free on 0800 555 444 (Monday-Friday, 8.00 am-7.00 pm; Saturday, 9.00 am-1.00 pm). Alternatively, take a look at our Problems logging in? page.
