2. How Yell.com Search works for the advertiser
Priority Adverts are on average four times more likely to be displayed than free listings¹
- Customers who purchase a Yell.com product (excluding Domain Names, Banners, Local Advert and Sponsored Listings) are given a listing, which is part of the Yell.com search engine.
- Users can search for business listings by entering, for example, a product, brand, service and/or company name and location. Yell.com Search first checks to see which classification(s) best match the search. For example, if a user looks for "attic conversions", Yell.com will also look for businesses which match "loft conversions".
- Yell.com Search then checks the listings content and website information within these classifications only to see if it contains the product, service or brands specified by the user. Yell.com Search ranks the listings based upon whether each one is an advertiser or free listing, as well as its relevance to the terms and keywords being searched for. Therefore, adverts that are rich in product, service and brand keywords are more likely to be returned.
- When two or more businesses are equally relevant to a given search, then the ranking of those businesses is randomised—each one has an equal chance of coming above the other(s).
- The postcode of a business determines the locations in which its listing may be found. However, these locations can be expanded if certain Yell.com products are purchased. (NB neither Yellow Pages directory, regional, metropolitan nor national area package names are search terms.)
- The number of listings displayed for every search will be limited. Yell.com cannot guarantee that advertisers will appear above free listings. Determination of relevance is at the sole discretion of Yell.com.
