Supply your files as PostScript (.ps), TIFF (.tif) or EPS (.eps). PostScript files provide the best option for us to ensure that the advert is reproduced to your requirements. If supplying your advert as an EPS you will need to remember to embed the fonts used in the advert or to convert them to outlines/paths. If your TIFF file contains text then you need to create your file at a minimum of 600 dpi. If your file does not contain text (e.g. a photo) then you can create your file at a minimum of 300 dpi. We are sorry we cannot accept files supplied in the format native to the application that created them, such as Quark XpressTM, Microsoft WordTM etc and we cannot install any fonts you supply.
Anything sent to us on a disk needs to be accompanied with a paper proof of what is on the disk. This allows us to check that our final output matches your expectations. You may supply your digital file on CD, Zip or Floppy Disk. We are sorry we cannot accept files via email or ISDN. Follow the Royal Mail guidelines for the safest way to package your disk.
Try to ensure the type sizes used are legible and clear. Text in an advert should be no less than 6pt. When text is on a tinted or solid background, mono or colour, text should be no less than 10pt.
Illustrations and linesWhere possible keep illustrations simple. Remember fine lines do not always stand out well.
TintsKeep tints between 20% and 80%. Lighter tints may disappear. Darker tints may appear solid.
Paper referencesYou may wish to supply a paper reference (e.g. photo, clipping, business card, letterhead etc). Try to ensure that these references are legible and no smaller than the size to be used in the advert. Try to avoid photocopies and faxes as these will generate poor results in the final advert.
A special note on copyrightRemember, many images are protected by copyright. You should have permission from the copyright owner to use any image or logo you wish to include in your advert.
